VOLUNTEERS will be pounding the streets of Portsmouth to urge women to sign up and fight the battle against cancer.
From tomorrow members of Cancer Research UK will be calling upon mums, daughters, sisters, grandmas and friends to enter this year’s Race for Life.
The race takes place on July 22 and starts at Southsea Common.
Women can choose to either walk, jog or run a 5k or 10k route.
Events manager Suzi Dent said: ‘Come on ladies – please enter Race for Life in Portsmouth. It’s all of us versus cancer and we need you to join the fight as soon as possible.
‘Race for Life is not about being fast or fit. Instead, it’s a celebration of sisterhood and hope.
‘Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun.’
Last year, 9,159 women took part in Race for Life in Portsmouth and raised £503,285.
This year, organisers want 9,350 women and girls to come forward and help raise £478,405.
Money raised goes towards funding vital research into all types of cancers – that effect both men and women.
