RICK JACKSON: The patriotism inspired by HMS Queen Elizabeth is wonderful

A councillor swapped the chamber for a grotto when he dressed up as Santa.

Fareham South ward councillor Trevor Howard was asked to put on the bright red robes at the Broadlaw Community Space at Broadlaw Walk in Fareham.

The community centre's second annual Christmas bazaar saw dozens of local families drop by to see Santa and enjoy the tombola, raffle and table top sale.

Cllr Howard said: 'They were looking for someone to be Santa, and as I'm there quite often, they asked me. It was wonderful fun and everyone at the community centre works hard and they do a great job. I'm here to help out in any way I can and if they want me to do it again next year, I'd love to.'

The Mayor of Fareham, Brian Bayford, also dropped by. The community centre was created as part of a 14m regeneration project for the area.
