Campaign warns of risks to babies over festive period

A CAMPAIGN will warn of the dangers to babies at Christmas.

The Child Death Overview Panel, backed by the board of Hampshire’s Safeguarding Children is warning that the sleeping routines of babies may be put in jeopardy.

They want to remind those looking after babies that they should sleep in safe environments to lower the risk of Sudden Infant Death syndrome.

Risks to babies increases at this time of year due to the cold weather and carers’ consumption of alcohol.

The campaign’s advice is to choose a safe place for a baby to sleep, never sleep with a baby on the sofa, do not let them get hot, do not smoke or drink near them and always put a baby on its back to sleep.
