IT’S become an annual tradition for the team at Fareport to transform their offices into a sea of Blue one day every year.
And yet again they are showing their support for this year’s Blue Day, which sees hundreds of people across the area host blue-themed events in aid of The Tom Prince Cancer Trust.
Fareport Training Organisation in Fareham and Gosport provides training to young people and adults in need of work.
Last year, they raised £203.18 and this year they are hoping to top £300.
Ruth Cole, operational manager at Fareport and a big Pompey fan, said: ‘We always support Blue Day every year. We feel that it’s a fantastic, very worthwhile local charity to support and it’s fun and easy to get involved. The staff team at Fareport can all get involved by simply just wearing a blue ribbon in their hair or coming to work in full Pompey kit.
‘Even the team members who support a different team down the road are keen to donate their money although sometimes they wear an alternative colour in support. Everyone recognises the importance of supporting this fantastic charity.’
This year, Blue Day will take place on Friday, April 19 – a day before Pompey’s final home game of the season against Sheffield United. The staff will be wearing blue clothing and organising a blue raffle, where all the prizes are blue. Prizes range from blue bars of soapto blue baskets, blue scarves and blue sweets.
The trust was set up in 2004 by avid Pompey fan Tom’s family, shortly after his death from the bone cancer osteosarcoma a day before his 16th birthday.
The Prince family want to raise £1m for research into the disease. They have raised around £770,000 to date – £194,000 of which has come from the past six Blue Days.
