A stamp honour for Dickens

HERE is a sneak preview of two Royal Mail stamps featuring Dickens’ novels to honour the occasion.

The illustrations are taken from Nicholas Nickleby, above, in which Dickens draws on his memories of Portsmouth, and from his first novel The Pickwick Papers, below. They are part of a full set due out on June 19 with iconic characters from novels including Oliver Twist and A Tale of Two Cities.

The original Nicholas Nickleby manuscript pages marked with Dickens’ corrections will be on display at the Portsmouth City Museum throughout this year.
