Brian Howe ‘not in running’ to take over Pompey

NOT A CONTENDER Brian Howe

NOT A CONTENDER Brian Howe

FORMER Bad Company frontman Brian Howe is not in the running to take over Pompey, according to the administrators of the club’s parent company.

Terri Mulgrew, of UHY Hacker Young, said Mr Howe does not appear on a list of potential new owners drawn up by Andrew Andronikou, joint-administrator of Convers Sports Initiative (CSI).

Mr Andronikou has been searching for Pompey’s new owners since CSI went into administration in November.

Mr Howe, a lifelong Pompey fan, was rumoured to be interested in taking over the club after posts appeared on Facebook and Twitter pages believed to be his.

A comment posted on a Twitter profile believed to be that of Mr Howe said: ‘There will never be a Portsmouth without a football team.

‘I am doing all I can to help ensure that. Fingers crossed.’

But Ms Mulgrew said: ‘Brian Howe has not had any contact with us. I believe Andrew Andronikou has put a list of interested people together and he’s not on it.

‘We are speaking to people but no-one far along in the process.’

She also confirmed Sicilian-American businessman Joseph Cala, who claimed to be the frontrunner to take over, had been in touch with Mr Andronikou, but the administrator said he is not in the running.

Ms Mulgrew added: ‘We are very much looking for interested parties and it’s imperative anyone interested gets in contact with us.’

Saving Portsmouth. It should be apparent now, that no white knight on a horse is going to buy the club and that there is no billionaire thinking should he buy Portsmouth Football Club! The only way we are going to save Portsmouth is for the fans to try and raise money, and I don’t mean all giving £10 to a fund for the owners to waste. Long time fans will know that we have been asked before to save the club and there is never any thanks when the club is back on its feet. Why is it not possible to form a company with say 500,000 shares at a value of £100 each and sell these to the fans and businesses that want to support Portsmouth. I would think that nearly every fan, both home and abroad, would buy at least one share and many would buy more. As an example, if 50,000 fans bought one each, that would raise £5 million pounds. This would enable all fans to support the club in a positive way and whilst many would only be able to buy 1 share, others like Brian Howe, would be able to buy many more. Indeed, I would be happy to buy 10 or 20 shares, plus 1 each for the grandchildren. It should be possible therefore, with the right publicity, to generate enough sales to enable us to get into negotiations to purchase the club. I believe an idea like this would capture the imagination of some of the national media and possible fans of football in this country would also consider buying 1 share each. I would think that AA now realises that he is not going to get back all of CSI’s investment and would be prepared to accept a lower figure to buy the club. Also, I am sure it would be possible to make Chainrai a lower offer for the ground, with perhaps the balance being made up in shares in the company, with a similar deal being offered to Gayadmak. Regarding the way forward, it would probably be wise to assume that we will be a good championship side for the near future, to get rid of the high wage earners as soon as possible, run the club on a profitable basis, develop the academy to bring through future players. If we were lucky enough to get promotion, retain the championship side, with a few less expensive additions, have a good time and if we were relegated take the money and spend this on improving the ground to increase capacity so that next time we got promoted, we may be able to stay in the premiership a bit longer. Within our huge following we must have a good quality firm of accountants and lawyers who would perhaps set the company up in the first instance on a no fee basis, but on the understanding that if we were successful in buying the club, that they would get the future work. If we were unsuccessful, then the money could be returned, less administration costs, which should be minimal, about 10%. It might also be a gesture of goodwill to give shares to the people who had small claims against the club and who were promised payment, but who I understand still haven’t been paid. There is a lot to discuss, but I feel having watched what has been happening to our fine club, that we should now either put up or shut up and accept our fate. I for one would be happy to write a cheque for 13 shares today and more as soon as I am able. If more pledges came in from other fans then perhaps the HMRC might give us time to get organised or the Football League might help by giving some of the parachute payment in advance until we can negotiate to buy the club. Please get as many people as possible to read this and respond and perhaps the News might pick up the story and run with it.

Just because the administrators say Howe is not in the running, have they been asked if Vince Wolanin is?

I am not sure that 5000 will turn up on the day, ..apparrently only 13000 has been sold so far, and that saddens me. 9 years ago we took 9000 to Selhurst for a game against Wimbledon..and there have been all the other big big games..we know we are not Newcastle when it comes to numbers, but i was hopeful we would have fans enough to repond to this appeal.

Every day Plan B comes a little closer. I completely fear the worst now. First game was in '82 above the white wall on the FE when we beat Sheffield Utd 4-1 on the first day of the season but I fear I'll never be able to take my children to FP to watch this Pompey team again after Saturday. Heartbreaking! Some people will have a lot of blood on their hands... However, The trust are doing a fine job and I've every confidence that given a bit of time and patience we will be back again. Play up Pompey!

The club still need to get most of the Milton End opened for home fans. We can only PACK THE PARK if the seats are made available. Yes, I know there are stll plenty of tickets left but they will go, some people will always put thingsoff until the last minute and it would be a shame if they can't get in.

@28 - I tend to agree with alot of your posts but i can't stand by and let abyone defend AA. He hasn't tried to keep us in the picture - he has constantly (last ime as well as this time) lied through his teeth to us. If all of this ever gets properly investigated in the future AA's grubby little hands will be all over it. He is a stooge to BC. But ignoring all of my theories about him and just focusing on hard facts - he's a tw@t. Gobby, publicity seeking, moron who can't even do his job. I mean i'd ignore all of the above if he was actually any good at what he does - you expect the arogance and bravado from a ultra successful man - but it's not acceptable coming from an incompetant mono-browed baboon.

Whatever you say about AA, Plymouth, he has tried to keep us in the picture more than our CEO which is pretty damning about those who run PFC who, using your analogy, some might call donkies. Which, for some reason, reminds me, anyone else seen the story about Mokoena going to a Chinese club?

uhy hackerAA..they are clients of BC..their job is to get him the HIGHESTBEST deal...they have no interest in Pompey FC. Think of it this way,.. if they were selling BC's horse, they would not care one jot if it was the RSPCA, or a french resturant, or a glue factory who was buying it. THE PROBLEM IS now I feel,- to keep the analogy going,- is that BC wants a "Race horse" price for what is generally viewed as a "Cart horse" property. The folks who are into, and know their horses recognise this, and have only made offers accordingly, and i think that BC AA has sent them away, and put them off by demanding too much money. BC by his own admission has no interest(hence understanding) of Football, so has TOO HIGH EXPECTATIONS-probably going to FA Cup final, and being in the Prem 2 years ago. Now they sound desperate...get ..now they are getting desperate because before long they will only have a carcus courtacy of HMRC..."Ms Mulgrew added: ‘We are very much looking for interested parties and it’s imperative anyone interested gets in contact with us."..yeh well if Andy Andriod had not been so stupid and down right rude when the Trust (aka RSPCA in the analogy) had contacted him..and told them they needed £100ml before he would lower himself to talk to him..we might not be here...what a complete..K@%b he is.

einstein post 17--AA Works for BC not PFC His job is to get the deal nearest to what BC wants. He is also the administrator of convers amongs others. Also as we are not in Administration AA has no say on the day to day running of the club.

Dear oh dear, if PFC was a horse it would have been shot years ago. Time to put the poor old thing out of its (and everyone elses) misery.
