Businesses sponsor kit for cancer match
A man who is organising a charity football match for cancer research has secured business sponsors for the teams' kit.
Raymond Ogilvie set up Football For Cancer after members of his family were struck down with the illness, and appeared in The News in January appealing for players and sponsors.
The 27-year-old has got sponsorship from taxi firm Aqua Cars, utility broker Utility Watch, DVO2 Ltd, a telecommunication service based in Portsmouth, as well as from Kits 2000, a sports shop in Portsmouth, and Fuf Balloons, a balloon shop.
Raymond needs 60 people to play in one of his four teams and raise sponsorship of about 500 each to help raise more than 30,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The DJ, of Francis Avenue, Southsea, said: 'It is all getting there but we really want people to sign up and take part. We are also looking for more sponsors for our kit, so hopefully businesses will contact me.
'I love football, everyone I know loves football. So this seemed like an obvious way to raise money for charity.'
The competition will have matches on April 10 and 17 and a final on May 2, all held at Moneyfields Sports and Social Club in Moneyfields Avenue, Copnor.
There will be a 5 entry fee per person to watch the games, with all the money going straight towards the charity.
Donated raffle prizes include meals at Gunwharf, a free MoT and a signed Portsmouth FC football shirt.
People who want to take part can collect a sponsorship form at Envy, Cascades, Portsmouth Moneyfields football grounds or Soccer City, Standard Way, Fareham Industrial Park.
