David Wilmot
This week's We Can Do It T-Shirt winner is a headteacher who really went the extra mile to benefit his community.
Last October David Wilmot, who runs Cams Hill School in Fareham, set up the Cams Community Club so that local older people could also use the school's facilities.
Now the school hosts more than 170 over-50s, who enjoy a diverse range of activities and classes for just 2.50 an hour, from cookery and computing, to tai chi and new age curling.
'I decided that with an ageing population we had to make the best of the facilities we have here,' said David. 'Often retired people are not very confident about going out and trying new things, so I wanted to provide them with an environment where they feel like they can.
'So far it's been an amazing success, the feedback has been brilliant.'
He added that the scheme also bridges the generation gap, helping both young and old people to understand one another better.
'We run a choir made up of both students and club members, and hopefully we are creating a big community made up of the entire age spectrum.'
Retired accountancy technician Wendy Hemsley, 63, nominated David for the award and said: 'It has given us all a new lease of life and we have made lots of new friends. Some of us are thinking of camping out down there, we have so many activities going on. I don't know what I will do with myself during the school holidays.'
