Hair-stylists' customers all shook up

HAIR-STYLISTS from Hi-Lites in Eastney, enticed clients to their charity day by serenading them with Elvis Presley songs.

They invited an Elvis impersonator along and he belted out the hits non-stop.

The music helped to attract hordes of clients to the salon in Eastney Road as people queued up to pay 5 to have their hair cut.

All the proceeds from the day were donated to Cancer Research UK.

The salon and its generous customers raised 714.66 for the charity.

The day was such a success that the salon now plans to make it an annual event to raise money for a good cause.

The salon's owner, Alison Irish, said: 'The guy being Elvis was the main thing to draw everybody in.

'We were cutting people's hair outside and he was singing away.

'The hair-cuts were so popular that by lunch time we had crowds of people outside.

'It was just overwhelming really. It was a fantastic day.

'The music was playing and we had so much fun.'

Alison's dedicated team cut more than 40 people's hair throughout the day and everyone was staggered by how many people had turned out to support them.

Neighbouring shops and local organisations also donated prizes for a raffle, including meat vouchers, a basket of fruit and vegetables and theatre tickets.

The salon decided to support Cancer Research UK because so many of its clients and their families have been affected by the disease.

Alison said: 'We are definitely going to do this as an annual event and next year it will be on August 6. I think we'll almost certainly be raising money for the British Heart Foundation next year.'

She added: 'Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a huge success and so much fun for us all.'
