PRESSURE was today mounting on the administrator of Pompey’s parent company to meet fans to discuss their club’s financial position.

Fans say that it is time for Andrew Andronikou to work with the city to come up with a plan to save Pompey.

As reported in The News yesterday, fans, politicians and business people are united in calling for Andrew Andronikou of UHY Hacker Young to come to a public meeting.

And today the message was strident as roughly 2,000 fans were due to travel to Peterborough to watch their team play.

Scott Mclachlan, spokesman for the Pompey Supporters Trust, said: ‘Time is fast running out for Pompey.

‘It is imperative that Mr Andronikou meet with the trust and representatives of local business and Portsmouth City Council to allow us to discuss the grim situation at Portsmouth Football Club.

‘The city of Portsmouth is rising to the defence of its football club, and we will not allow it to be left to die.

‘The city of Portsmouth wants to save Pompey and it is time for UHY Hacker Young and Mr Andronikou to meet with the city and come to some agreement on a plan to save PFC and provide Balram Chainrai with an exit from a club he clearly doesn’t want to own.’

The News understands that only one man has been presented to the Championship’s governing body, the Football League, as a contender to take over at Fratton Park.

Sicilian-American businessman Joseph Cala renewed his interest in buying the club this week, but many still have doubts about his background.

He announced that he is now interested in buying CSI’s debenture – the debt it owes to Balram Chainrai and Levi Kushnir’s Portpin.

The debt was incurred when CSI co-owner and Pompey chairman Vladimir Antonov was arrested on fraud charges and his assets were frozen.

Mr Cala said if he bought the debenture, rather than buying the club outright, he would not have to pass the Football League’s owners and directors test – formerly the fit and proper persons test – and bypass any check the FL could do on him.

He said: ‘If you have a debenture they don’t have to go through the FL like I have to do.

‘Applying for that is like trying to get into the MI5. ’

But the Football League is adamant that he would still have to pass the test.

A spokesman said: ‘If you own 30 per cent or more of a football club, or if you are a director, you have to go through the test. It’s a self-certification test and there is a legal requirement that the information has to be accurate.’

with reference to the last paragraph of the above story. if the (fit and proper persons) test has a legal requirement for the information furnished by prospective buyers of a football club, then how come, Al-Fahim, Al-Faraj( who probably doesnt even exist!!) and Antonov actually passed the damn thing? either the information they provided was correctly as legally demanded, in which case why have they and us become involved in all this financial mess, or the info they provided was incorrect, which means they broke the legal requirement, i.e. broke the law in order to gain control of Portsmouth FC. Surely then, it follows that if an outside party, i.e. the prospective buyer broke the law to obtain control of the club, how can it be the club's fault for the subsequent actions of the purchaser? how come the three people I mentioned above have walked away scot-free and Pompey FC have taken the brunt of the fallout??

(deserves a re-posting by KbK) Superb performance by everyone. Organised, professional, decisive and tactically astute, this was a superb effort in a match which Pompey won very comfortably in the end. The support was absolutely tremendous throughout. It is impossible to contemplate a situation in which this great club, this emerging team, this highly calibre Manager and our superb fans should be allowed, by the incompetence of others, to find themselves anywhere other than at the forefront of this great game. Now all I need is Kylie Minogue in a leather corset, a bottle of brandy, and wake up in the morning to find that Bill gates has bought Pompey, and I can die a happy man ...
