Prime Minister calls for tax man to meet with Pompey officials
SUPPORT Prime Minister David Cameron
POMPEY’S fight for survival has received backing from the Prime Minister.
David Cameron today said he will do all he can to keep the club in business in today’s Prime Minister’s Questions.
Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt urged the Prime Minister to ask HMRC to meet with Pompey officials over the club’s winding-up petition over unpaid tax.
She said: ‘If a local super market closes down another quickly takes its place. If Portsmouth Football Club closes down the Pompey fans will not be content with buying their season ticket from Southampton.
‘Will the Prime Minister add his voice to mine in calling for HMRC to meet with the club so it recoups the tax it is owed that our club survives and that the fans have their chance to become its owners.’
The Prime Minister said: ‘I will certainly do that and she’s right to raise this issue. Knowing one or two Pompey fans I can completely understand the idea they can go and support Southampton is incredible and we will do everything we can to keep this friendly rivalry going.’

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 09:26 PMIt does not matter Post 137 Bluelagoon we got a mention and nothing may come of this but as I said before. If i was involved in trying to resolve the Portsmouth challenge and now it gets a mention in Parliment I would be a little more on my toes. Anything we can do how ever small to keep us going or enable us to get a better dialogue with the taxman then great nothing ventured nothing gained. we need a few leaders now to co-ordinate some initiatives. I said for example the 12th man wont get off the ground unless the local papers promote this. Then it needs a plan beyond lets wait and see or Plan B what can be done now. We need to string it out to the summer some how.Lower the wages and make ourselves a more attractive propersition with BC dropping his demands to at least half. Then AA accepting the best offer whats going, Its only worth whats someone is prepared to pay.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 09:04 PMQuoting from POL: "I think there's a more obvious political point Cameron is looking to win by commenting on our plight TBH. The Tory's have come in for A LOT of flak for not having stood up to HMRC over why Vodaphone and Goldman Sachs were let off tens of billions of pounds in tax recently. This is a cheap, easy, and frankly completely hollow way to look like he's at least standing up to them..."

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 08:53 PM@120not a very sensible piece of writing on an oppositions forum .whats with your own forum to voice your opinions .......what you are forgetting is the fans themselves are not directly responsible for all the bad that has occurred at pompey every one of pompey supporters here and around the world regrets and would change all that has happened .none of us want to avoid taxes or be invoved in shady goings on but like you we are completly powerless to change things .we just want to watch football........unless we can mobilise every single fan to the cause ........every single bit of help from whomsover wishes to help from pm to mp,s is appreciated in saving a fans club .thats no more than the fans deserve after being treated pretty badly now for years .there is despite the views on this forum a definite loyalty and a solidarity to defend our club to the very last and so it will be pup pfe

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 08:42 PM@ Philip Hayman - Just to say that this is probably the best summary posted on here. It's a pity everybody else seems to concentrate in answering pointless drivel with more pointless drivel.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 07:31 PM@ 123. It should be "themselves", or even "their selves", at a push, so you lose Brownie Points for poor English, I'm afraid. That pedantic point aside, I also hope that the tax man gets every penny owed - with interest, if and where appropriate - but I hope that can be achieved without our famous old football club disappearing from the face of the earth.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 07:30 PMTown Parking, the Southampton you are talking about would be the ones who also went through an insovency event, never paid for their cemetary like, flat pack stadium and whose parent company claimed to be a separate entity when it's sole company was the football club I assume? They only got a 10 point deduction and got off light if you ask me. Actually Pompey probably will get a points deduction considerably greater than 10 points and I'll take that as long as we survive as a club. Now slither off to your own pathetic rag's message board and join all the other bitter people, there's a good wurzel.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 07:29 PMI have often asked the question if Pompey was taken over what could be expected to be paid given the current climate and what assets we have (players). I have seen arguments for and against whether a new owner would have to pay the 10.8 mill. Was this a loan to CSI and then paid to Pompey? I assume in the end AA has got to accept the best offer on the day. (if any) BC will have to acept the going rate for the ground. The Club is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. I can see 5-6 mill required up front and for tax bill and cash flow until the summer Then plan to reduce the wage bill. The rest is whatever BC agrees and the CSI loan if applicable would be paid back in stage payments. What have I missed out here? The only real assett is the players and we can see what was on offer for them in this transfer window. I am aware of the Feb 20th deadline. Im just trying to get an idea what someone has to come up with.

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 07:27 PMWhere is gungerwecantbuyawin tonight ? Hiding in his rathole no doubt, lol. 2 Championship wins for the Stains in 2months, garbage form if you ask me, Told you before Tw@tkins went to the same schooI as SC, moaning about the referee bleating about they should have had 3 penalties. Well let me tell you Tw@tkins you were lucky to get the one you did as it was certainly not intentional hand ball, and that Jap cr@p mush you bought for £2m is ucking useless lol. Still keep up the good work Tw@tty you will soon be out of the top 6. On a more important topic I really do hope we get away without having to pay HMRC all the money we owe them, It will wind the rats up so bad haha. PUPPPU
