MORE than 2,500 Pompey fans have signed up to Pompey’s 12th Man initiative.
It’s the brainchild of the Pompey Supporters’ Trust to unite all fans under one banner.
The idea is that every fan signs up on the website pompeys12thman.co.uk so potential buyers of the club understand the support and passion Blues fans have for their club.
The website is not just for those fans based in Portsmouth – it’s for every single fan, wherever in the world they happen to be.
It also asks fans to sign up and pledge their support to a new model of club ownership, giving fans a tangible stake or voice in the running of Portsmouth Football Club.
Ashley Brown, chairman of the Pompey Supporters’ Trust, said: ‘Once again, Portsmouth Football Club is in crisis, and, this time, many fans are saying enough is enough, it’s time for the people who care most about the club - its loyal supporters - to play a real role in the running of the club and safeguard its future.
‘We urge anyone who cares about Pompey to sign up to the website, show your support for the club during these worrying times, and show the authorities, potential investors, future owners and the whole of football that it’s time for change.
‘Pompey fans – united and proud – have a powerful voice and by standing together, we have a greater chance of influencing the future of PFC.’
Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt and Portsmouth City Council leader Gerald Vernon-Jackson were among the first to sign up to it and call for Pomopey fans to have a louder voice when decisions are made about how the club is run.
Ms Mordaunt said: ‘Why should fans have a governance role? Because they are the only people who are there for the sake of the club alone, with no other interest than its success. Without them there would be no club. Only good can come of it, that is why I support the Trust and this initiative.’

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 01:38 PMCan't agree with 12th man initiative,to many unanswered questions.Plan B will mean the end of first class football in Portsmouth.Saints will revert to being the South Coasts Premiership club with Brighton as the Championship club.Where will the 'new Portsmouth' play, they won't be able to afford Fratton Park, has anyone any idea how much the upkeep of the stadium is? It is said there are local businesses involved, who are they and are they wealthy enough and big enough to make a substatial financial difference. For the club to stay as Pompey only plan A will work.Sadly it would appear the real money men don't seem to think it's worth buying,I wonder why?

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 01:31 AMThe new owners or any owner who buys a team does not think of thr fans when they choose to buy a club. The first priority is to make money, once they purchase a club, the value goes up,i.e. £60mil to purchase. They turn around and sell it for twice as much. Then they care about the players and want to make sure they have the proper players to help them get more money for themselves. The fans and supporters are the last reason for purchasing a club and the last people they would go to for advice.

Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 09:53 PMWhat's the point of all fans uniting under one banner? Makes chuff all difference to the club! If clutching at straws is what provides comfort, then go ahead! At the end of the day, if I was a multi-millionaire and wanted to buy the club, why would I want to listen to what the fans have to say? After all, it would be my money and my club, so I wouldn't give a toss about some two-bit trust who claim to represent the fans. In fact, you fans are just an inconvenience, I have to pay vast sums to provide facilities at the ground as well as policing. When you're gone, I have to pay staff to clear up your mess from the stadium. It would be much better if none of you turned up at all! It would save me a packet! Remember, it's my money and my club!

Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 03:10 PMA suggestion that may help highlight the signatures campaign and rapidly gain more. Wouldnt it help if the News ran a continuous (ie permament headline feature every day) short article with a headline "sign up to show your support to save pompey" and a link to the 12th man site. I had to google it and believe me - there are numerous other clubs (not just football in the UK) that like to use the 12th man catchphrase. Just a suggestion that may help - it has to be made as easy as possible.
