YOUNG actors who are aiming to become a transatlantic theatre group have sent out a rallying call for help.
Members of the Footlights Drama Group, based at Merchistoun Hall, Horndean, are giving the backstage a makeover ahead of a fundraising play to raise money for a trip to Michigan Youth Theatre in Detroit, USA.
They intend to go across the pond to perform a specially commissioned play.
Volunteers are need to spend one day, May 20, giving the backstage and dressing room area some much-needed TLC.
Drama teacher Lisa Clements, said: ‘We are in rehearsals for a moving, powerful piece of theatre written by young people for young people and our production will go on in August.
‘But our backstage area has suffered major water damage in recent months and the latest spell of wet weather has not helped.
‘We are giving up a day of our time to try and give the backstage area of our dressing room a big makeover.
‘We are clearing it out, cleaning it up and want to make it over. We are encouraging parents, members and volunteers to come along and help out.
‘It would be wonderful if anyone could donate to us any unwanted paint to help make this makeover a success.
‘The colour does not matter. As long as it can cover walls and wood we would be grateful for any types of emulsion going.’
The group will create a handprint wall for the younger children to place their name and print. An artist has offered to paint a mural on one of the walls with inspirational theatre quotes.
The aim is to finish in seven hours. Call Miss Clements on 07834 997016 to help out.
