A GROUP that shares Gosport’s heritage with the public is looking for a pair of volunteers to fill vital roles.
Gosport Heritage Open Days has called for two people to join its team.
Committee member Ralph Booker of Lee-on-the-Solent said the group needs somebody with experience in marketing and someone else with experience in inclusion.
Mr Booker said: ‘They are both very important roles.
‘The marketing person is needed to deal with advertising, press releases, organising the programme and so on.
‘The inclusion person is needed to offer advice to the participating sites and museums on making their offering suitable for people with varying disabilities.’
Mr Booker said the committee has about 16 members who look after different aspects of the organisation.
He said: ‘We’ve got members who deal with marketing, events, finance and also for things like inclusion and so on.’
Mr Booker said the open days cover 147 sites, many which have links to Gosport’s long association with the military.
He said: ‘Gosport has a lot of heritage. It’s completely out of proportion with the size of the place.’
Among sites open on the open days are HMS Sultan, Crescent Gardens and Fort Rowner.
Mr Booker said: ‘The offering includes the Diving Museum.
‘There’s the Angelsea Hotel, which is a Georgian-built hotel, and Queen Victoria stayed there when she was a princess. And there are a few cemeteries as well which go back hundreds of years.
‘There are museums which take part including Explosion! and we normally have access to Fort Blockhouse and Fort Brockhurst.’
This year the open days will take place on September 11 to 14.
