ADVENT will be celebrated at a church service in Waterlooville.

St George’s Church in St George’s Walk will host the service on Sunday from 6pm.

It will mark the start of the church year.

Father Mike Sheffield said the meaning of Advent was often overlooked.

He said: ‘Advent is an exciting time of year, but sadly it can get hidden or forgotten with all the Christmas preparations going on.’

The church’s communications co-ordinator Chris Gadd said that the service would be a ‘magical event’.

Mr Gadd said there would be singing and part of the service would be conducted by candlelight.

He said: ‘Carols will be sung and during the service the church lights will be turned off as the whole congregation each light a candle.

‘The rest of the service is by candlelight.

‘Do bring your family and come and enjoy this special event with us.’
