FIREFIGHTERS were called to put out a car fire after it was involved in a single-vehicle accident in Eastney.

A Southsea Fire Station spokesman said a call was received at 2.41am on Saturday of a BMW 5 Series ablaze in Henderson Road.

The spokesman said the fire was out and the driver and passenger were safelt out of the car by the time a fire truck arrived at the scene.

He said: ‘All we did was make the scene safe, so we disconnected the car battery and things like that.’

The spokesman said a paramedic was tending to the car’s occupants as firefighters left, but there were no major injuries.
