THIS is the dramatic moment a car was engulfed in flames in Portsmouth.

The car in Northern Parade caught light just after 10am today.

The owner, a man believed to be in his 50s, managed to escape unharmed.

Nearby resident Christine Bibby, from Coronation Homes, said: ‘We heard a huge noise, like a bomb going off. It just went up. Luckily he got out.’

A fire crew from Cosham arrived to put out the blaze. A spokeswoman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue said they were called shortly before 10.10am to reports of a car on fire. No other vehicles were involved.
