RAIL passengers face disruption after a car crashed into a train level crossing barrier.

The vehicle struck the barrier as it was passing Bosham train station, near Chichester.

A train travelling on the line then hit the same barrier.

It is not known at this stage whether anyone was injured in the incident.

Engineers from Network Rail are currently on the scene making repairs.

The work is causing delays to services between Chichester and Havant, with cancellations and delays of up to 30 minutes expected.

A statement on Southern Railway website said: ‘Southwest trains are still accepting valid rail tickets to and from Southampton and Portsmouth.’

A spokesperson from Southern Railway said: ‘Details are still sketchy at this stage, but we can confirm that the train did not hit the car.

‘No damage was caused to the train. Engineers are currently repairing the broken barrier.’
