A CARE home is appealing for help to move a train wagon from an allotment site to its grounds.
As reported, the wagon is being used as a store at Roman Grove Allotments, Portchester and as part of renovation works, it needs to go.
The allotment association put a plea in The News to see if any groups would be interesting in taking the wagon, which was built in 1899, to save it from the scrapheap.
Bluewater Nursing Home, on Southampton Road, expressed an interest in taking the wagon, restoring it and keeping it in the grounds for its elderly residents and their visitors to use. Now it just needs help to move it to its site, 500m away.
David Sheppard, manager from the care home, said: ‘We would really like someone to help us pick it up and take it down the road. It may just be a simple lift or it may need a forklift truck. It would be a shame for it to go to waste.’
