A RESIDENTIAL centre in Portsmouth has been recognised for going the extra mile at a national social services awards ceremony.

Catherine Booth House, in St Paul’s Road, Southsea, was celebrated at The Salvation Army’s annual presentation where they picked up the Families Award.

It was presented with the accolade for the service it provides for vulnerable families.

It provides a home for those in need, as well as organising activities and providing support.

Gillian Suckley, acting centre manager, said: ‘We were all really proud to achieve this for two years running.

‘The staff are fantastic and deserve this because they always give 100 per cent and are so committed.

‘Whether it’s a person on their own, or a family, we aim to help everyone.’

‘The awards were judged by an independent panel and saw hundreds of Salvation Army social centres and community churches nominated.’
