TWO friends clubbed together to raise more than £2,200 for a charity by holding a Las Vegas-themed night.

Madelaine Page, 49, and Sharon Mapleston, 52, raised the cash for charity Different Strokes – an organisation that supports people who have suffered a stroke.

They were inspired after their friend Julie Alp was supported by the charity when she suffered a stroke in May 2010. The 53-year-old has now made a full recovery so the pals wanted to express their gratitude to the charity.

Sharon, from Hilsea, said: ‘Without the help of the Different Strokes it would have been a tough road for Julie.

‘Me and Sharon wanted to give something back to them so we came up with the idea of a Vegas casino-themed night.’

The event transformed Milton Village Hall in Southsea with casino tables, a photo booth, a disco and a raffle. Guests paid £20 for a ticket, which included £150 fun money to be used at the betting tables.

Around £2,200 was raised which the charity is going to use to buy new equipment.
