Tributes paid by The Kings to Andrew Sachs

STAFF from The Kings Theatre have paid tribute to Andrew Sachs, who appeared at the Southsea venue in panto during the 1990s.

Sachs, who was best known as the hapless waiter Manuel in the classic sitcom Fawlty Towers, died aged 86 on November 23 but it was only made public on Thursday night. He had been suffering from dementia for the past four years.

Sandra Smith, from The Kings, recalled him playing Sarah the Cook in Dick Whittington in 1993: ‘He was the most charming, funny man. He made you feel like an instant friend, just a really lovely person. He was hilarious in the pantomime as well.’
