THE South Downs National Park officially opens today.

It is Britain’s newest National Park, covering a huge swathe of countryside across Hampshire and West Sussex and includes woodlands, heathlands, downlands and white chalk cliffs.

A celebration will be held in Petersfield town square from 11am to 2pm to mark the occasion.

There will be a range of stalls promoting the National Park, and information about farming, cycling and walking opportunities.
