SAILING training charity Tall Ships Youth Trust is offering 14 to 15-year-olds funding for an adventure at sea during the Easter holidays in April aboard its Portsmouth-based 62ft catamaran.

The seven-night voyage in the Solent will provide teenagers with the chance to become part of the crew and experience living on a sailing vessel.

The charity said youngsters will get involved with hauling ropes, steering the yacht, setting the sails and using the winches and cleats.

No previous sailing experience is needed as full training is provided by the trust’s own experienced crew.

Participants will help with the cooking and cleaning for all of the crew onboard.

Trust spokeswoman Felicity Pearson said: ‘Everyone will work hard as a team to sail the catamaran to its destinations during the voyage and although challenging, this adventure can be life-changing and will encourage teamwork, good communication skills and build self-esteem.’

The voyage for 14 to 15-year -olds begins and ends in Portsmouth, from April 17 to 24.

The Tall Ships Youth Trust is offering a bursary on this voyage and has reduced the price from £399 to £149 to enable more young people who otherwise couldn’t afford to go to have the opportunity to get onboard.

The trust said this funding is subject to a bursary application and availability.
