THE British Heart Foundation has received 1,427 bags of donations thanks to an appeal at Gunwharf Quays.

A ‘Big Donation’ event at the shopping centre asked local people to donate their good quality second-hand items such as clothing, toys, bric-a-brac, accessories and CDs in order to help replenish the charity’s local shops with enough stock to meet ever growing demand.

The donated items will now go on to be sold in the BHF shops to raise vital funds for the charity.

Peter Emery, centre director at Gunwharf Quays, said: ‘Thanks to all the Portsmouth community and visitors of Gunwharf Quays who donated, it really will make an enormous difference to the thousands of people in our region who suffer from heart disease.

‘In these tough economic times, The Big Donation event is such a great way for people to still help a fantastic charity without having to directly donate money.’

If you missed the appeal at Gunwharf Quays, there’s still time to contribute by taking your donations to your nearest BHF Shop. For more inforamtion visit bhf.org.uk/bigdonation
