A TEAM of hairdressers from Gosport has been pounding the streets in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research.

The hairdressers from Hixys salon in Rowner Road have declared August a month of celebration with two events planned.

Yesterday, a group walked from Rowner Road in Gosport to another salon in Chandlers Ford.

They were inspired to take part after owner Lisa Hicks discovered a close friend had been diagnosed with cancer.

Last year they raised around £2,000 at a similar event and this year they are hoping to have raised around £3,000.

Lisa, said: ‘It’s devastating when you hear that your best friend has been diagnosed with cancer.

‘I felt helpless but wanted to support my friend all I could and this was something we could do to help.’

Later this month, Hixys is holding a celebration event to hand over the funds raised.

It will coincide with a salon relaunch in Gosport.

There will be new products and goody bags for everyone who attends.
