PEOPLE can gain access to affordable insulation in their homes thanks to a new scheme.
Gosport Borough Council is working with Hampshire County Council and 10 other local authorities, to bring householders ‘Insulate Hampshire’.
During the winter warmer promotion, which runs until the end of March, free cavity wall and loft insulation is being offered to help reduce both energy bills, and the county’s carbon footprint.
Maureen Skipp, a retired office clerk from Gosport, heard about the scheme from a leaflet delivered through her door.
Maureen’s home already had some insulation but she was keen to increase the depth of the loft insulation to the recommended 270mm.
She said: ‘I felt reassured knowing it was council backed because I knew that if I had any problems, I would be able to contact my local council.
‘Since having the insulation installed, I’m now even more careful about saving energy. ‘
The scheme, which is running until September 2012, is available for all Hampshire residents, aside from those living in Portsmouth and Southampton.
Carol White, an energy efficiency and sustainability officer from the council, said: ‘We’re very pleased to get all our homes in Gosport insulated.
‘This scheme is a great way for people to save money and keep warmer as the colder months approach.’
