HUNDREDS of music lovers descended upon Fratton Park today to take part in a world record air guitar attempt led by 90s pop singer Chesney Hawkes.

The original plan was to try and beat the record number of people taking part in such an event, held by 2,377 people in California, but as only 250 turned up, the plan was changed.

Instead, participants played air guitar to Chesney’s hit ‘The One and Only’ nonstop for 10 minutes and 32 seconds, the longest a group has ever done air guitar, in the hope that will be crowned a Guinness world record.

Justin Bridges, 37, had a great time with son Louie, 10.

Justin, of Southsea, said: ‘we really enjoyed it.

‘At least someone had the initiative to turn it into a time thing.’
