THE county record office in Chichester will close for two weeks to allow for a clean-up.

The office, in Orchard Street, will be shut from Monday, November 28 and will reopen on Monday, December 12.

The closure, which happens every year, will help staff thoroughly clean the office as well as catching up on some of the backlog of cataloguing.

Councillor Lionel Barnard, who oversees the record office for West Sussex County Council, said the plan would help staff tackle the time-consuming jobs that cannot be completed when the office is busy with members of the public. The closure will have no effect on the coroner’s office.
