Choose the right NHS treatment service

Gusts of up to 70mph could hit Portsmouth across the next couple of days

Rush hour commuters warned of 70mph gusts set to hit Portsmouth area

Patients are being urged to choose the right NHS service for treatment over the New Year period.

The NHS is asking people not to go to A&E at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, with minor injuries and illnesses, but instead go to the walk-in centre and minor injuries units across the area.

The St Mary's Treatment Centre based at St Mary's Hospital in Milton, Portsmouth, and the minor injuries unit at Gosport War Memorial Hospital, will both be open over New Year.

Nurses there can treat things such as minor breaks, injuries and illnesses, cuts and bruises, sprains and strains, stomach upsets, and provide emergency contraception.

The St Mary's centre is open 8am to 10pm Monday to Sunday and the Gosport minor injuries unit is open from 8am to 9pm Monday to Sunday.

You do not need to register to use the centres or make an appointment, and can often be seen quicker than if you go to A&E.
