Christmas lights bring festive cheer to Gunwharf

FIREWORKS and festive fun pulled in thousands of people to see the switching on of Gunwharf Quays’ Christmas lights.

Crowds descended on the shopping centre on Saturday evening for two hours of entertainment before a spectacular fireworks display.

Snow cannons rained down snow flakes on shoppers as the performances on stage went on in the central square.

Pupils from Park Community School in Havant and Portsmouth Grammar School took to the stage to entertain the crowds.

Grace Saunders, nine, was part of the Portsmouth Grammar School junior brass band. Afterwards she was chosen to press the button to switch on the lights.

She said: ‘Playing in front of people was a bit nerve-racking but I had fun.

‘I was really excited to be chosen to turn the lights on.’
