PORTSMOUTH Film Society will benefit from a cash windfall after being awarded a grant to promote film and culture in the community.

Its Pop-Up Mobile Cinema project was one of 31 recipients in the second round of Lottery Funding in the UK.

The key to its success was its two-year track record in promoting alternative film culture from its home at the Omega Centre in Omega Street, Southsea. The project will see the society take cinema to a range of other community venues, including the New Theatre Royal during the autumn.
