HUNDREDS of people were forced to leave council offices when a fire alarm was set off.

Firefighters from across the region descended on Fareham Borough Council’s eight-storey civic offices in Civic Way, Fareham. Several crews are always sent out when there is a call from a high-rise building.

Council officers and members of the public were sent to nearby Ferneham Hall at around 4pm today as the fifth-floor alarm went off.

It is believed to have been started by an electrical fault.

Two units from Fareham, two from Cosham, including a special equipment unit, the turntable ladder from Southsea as well as retained fire crews from Portchester and Wickham attended.
