CHARITIES and community groups in the area will benefit from over £42,000, thanks to the Co-operative Group.

The money comes from its community fund, which dishes out grants of up to £2,000.

Members of the Co-operative earn cash based on the points they collect when they shop at any of the group’s businesses, including The Co-operative Food, Travel, Pharmacy and Funeralcare.

Around 62,000 in the Solent area have now elected to use their cash dividend to boost the community fund.

Andrew North, the Co-operative Group’s regional secretary in the south and west, said: ‘It’s fantastic that so many of them choose to use this as an opportunity to give something back to their local communities.’
