COLLECTIONS are being made for refugees in Syria and Turkey.

People in Gosport are being asked to donate a range of items, which will then be sent abroad.

John Hanafin is working with the group Mums Who Care, which is travelling to Turkey next month.

He has set up a collection point at Holy Trinity Church in Gosport and will be liaising with the Southampton group to get the items shipped to refugees.

Things needed include:

n mugs, dishes and cooking utensils

n wood burning stoves

n first aid kits

n bedding and blankets

n nappy creams and nappies

n jars and packet baby food

n toothbrushes and toothpaste

n bars of soap

n tins of vegetables

n dried foods

John said: ‘I am liaising with two women in Southampton called Mums Who Care as they have transport contacts and know Turkey well.

‘They are sending a truck with container to Turkey and then on to Syria.

‘I will add Gosport donations to this container.’

Holy Trinity Church, on Trinity Green, will be open for donations between 1.30pm and 3.30pm Monday to Friday and 10am until 2pm on Saturdays.
