ONE of the biggest carnival processions in Hampshire is set to make a return this weekend.

Portchester Gala will see scores of colourful floats parade through the streets, with plenty of fun and activities taking place elsewhere.

The annual event is run by Portchester Community Association and sees community groups get together to make imaginative floats, which are judged to find the best.

Organiser Sarah Moss said this year was set to be one of the biggest.

The procession will leave from Portchester Community Centre at 11.30am on Saturday, and go through White Hart Lane and Castle Street before reaching Portchester Castle at around 12.30pm.

A funfair will be held outside the castle walls, which will be open from 4pm until 8pm on Friday, as well as all day Saturday.

During the day, there will be music and performances as well as a display of classic cars and stalls, and a chance to win £100.

Mrs Moss added: ‘It looks like the weather will be on our side, so it should be a great day.’
