LOCAL celebrity Hugh Dennis officially opened a huge lunch at Portsmouth Cathedral yesterday.

The television star, best known for his role in BBC sitcom Outnumbered, raised a glass to the Queen as people enjoyed the meal.

It was part of a Jubilee summer fete on the cathedral’s green, with activities, games and performances from local organisations.

Victoryland Theatre School, Portsmouth Grammar School Brass and Victory Morrismen were just some of the groups who took to the stage at the fete.

There was also a bouncy castle, face painting and a cake sale at the event.

Marcus Saunders, 52, or Buckby Lane, Anchorage Park, said: ‘It was fabulous to see the whole community out together having fun, that’s what the Jubilee’s all about.’

Timothy Runnacles, 66, of Carrington Gardens, Old Portsmouth, added: ‘It was very jolly and had a real festive feel to it.’

The fete followed a Jubilee-themed church service in the morning.
