HORNDEAN is one of the benefactors of a windfall from Hampshire County Council.
The authority has awarded a total of £19,556 to community associations and village halls across the county.
Horndean Community Association, which runs the historic Merchistoun Hall in Portsmouth Road, has been given £1,334.
The money will help pay for building improvements and repair work.
Councillor Keith Chapman, who oversees culture and recreation in Hampshire, said: ‘Village halls and community associations are a valuable asset in every local area and vital in providing an activity hub that brings together local people of all ages.
‘The county council’s contributions enable improvements to be made to their buildings, equipment and facilities, which helps to ensure that they continue their valuable work within the community.’
Horndean Community Association was formed in 1946 and raised £5,000 to buy Merchistoun. The centre was officially opened in 1956 by the then chairman of the county council, Alan Lubbock.
