A COMMUNITY pub is gearing up for its first beer and music festival.

The Harvest Home, in Southwick Road, Denmead, is treating its customers to fun-filled entertainment.

Bands will perform and a barbecue is being laid on for hungry visitors during the event, which runs tomorrow evening and all day Saturday.

Ales will be brought in from breweries across the region and children’s entertainment will be staged.

Kids will be treated to a disco, competitions and be shown how to make animals with balloons.

The front of the pub will be decked out with hay.

And assistant manager Chrissie Hicks hopes the occasion will go down a storm and further show The Harvest Home is the place to be.

She said the pub has been hard at work preparing the pub for the family occasion - and praised locals for doing their bit to support.

‘It’s been much about getting the beers in,’ Chrissie said.

‘Some of the locals have helped us out and one of them has put up a stand for the beers to go on.

‘People have been doing things in their own time.

‘There’s a real community spirit here.’

The event runs from 5pm to midnight on the Friday and midday to midnight the next day. Entry is free.

As reported, the pub was given a complete makeover in May.

A new bar was fitted and the place was given a fresh coat of paint.

Toilets were refurbished as part of the revamp, which took place over three weeks. The pub was closed for four of those days.
