CONCERNS have been raised that a proposed new business park off the A3 could cause traffic tailbacks and delays.

Gentian Development Group has applied to build a business park on land south of Buckmore Farm, off Winchester Road, Petersfield.

The site, around 6,000sq m, is behind the Premier Inn and McDonald’s.

The entrance to the business park on to Winchester Road would be controlled by traffic lights.

But Petersfield town councillors say this could delay traffic coming into and leaving Petersfield on the road.

Although broadly welcoming the plans, they say a roundabout would keep traffic flowing better than traffic lights.

A town council spokesman said: ‘Members are very concerned that traffic lights would lead to a buildup of traffic back toward the Winchester Road and Bell Hill roundabouts on an already busy road.’

The proposals are set to go before the planning committee of the South Downs National Park Authority at a later date.
