HAMPSHIRE rock musicians are being encouraged to take part in a county-wide battle of the bands.

Groups are being asked to send an MP3 file of one of their songs to Hampshire County Council’s music service for the chance to record at a professional recording studio.

The council is looking for young talent to headline at the Hampshire Welcomes the World Festival next July and win a recording session at East Street Studio in Havant.

The closing date for entries is November 21 and they must be emailed to dean.hallet@hants.gov.uk or sent as a CD to Battle of the Bands 2012, Hampshire Music Service, Rookwood Centre, Penshurst Way, Eastleigh, SO50 4RJ. The contest is open to young people aged 11 to 18. Entrants must include their band name, band members’ names and which instrument they play, details of their school, college or youth centre and their contact details.
