COUNCIL workers across the area are set to go on strike this Thursday as part of a nationwide row over their pay.

Picket lines will be set up across Portsmouth and there will be a rally held by trade unions at Guildhall Square at noon. This will be folllowed by a protest march through Commercial Road at 12.30pm. In Gosport, the town hall will be closed for the day as 72 per cent of the borough council’s staff, who are union members, are set to strike.

Fareham Borough Council said it is putting in ‘contingency plans’ to help minimise disruption.
