TWO of the area’s biggest country parks have closed because of the bad weather.

Thick snow has fallen over the past three hours and Tim Speller, estate manager of Staunton Country Park, in Havant, and Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Horndean, has taken the decision to close the car parks.

He said: ‘The main car parks at Queen Elizabeth have been closed down, just because it’s pretty treacherous on the A3M. It’s impassable at the moment and we’re not able to keep the car parks or the slip roads open.

‘We don’t want to encourage people to come out and do recreational stuff while everyone else is struggling to get to and from work.

‘Hopefully the snow will stop falling and we’ll be able to open tomorrow.’

Over at Staunton the car parks, farm and all other areas are also closed.

Mr Speller added: ‘Hopefully we will know by the end of the day whether we can open the car parks tomorrow and, if we do, people will be able to get their sledges out and safely enjoy the snow.’
