MORE than 300 people visited a crematorium open day.

The Oaks in Havant opened its doors for visitors to go behind the scenes.

Staff also put on flower-arranging demonstrations and guided tours.

The crematorium, run by Southern Co-operative, was open on April 25.

Neil Fish, crematorium team leader at The Oaks, said: ‘Our open day was an outstanding success and we were delighted that so many people came along.

‘Visitors were very interested to see behind the scenes and gain an understanding of how a crematorium is run; this in turn helped to dispel the myths surrounding cremation.

‘The tours around the grounds with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust were also popular.

‘We’ve had some lovely feedback from visitors and it’s encouraging to see that we have helped to reassure people about cremation.’

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is carrying out conservation work undertaken to protect the environment and wildlife at the crematorium.
