FOUR people were trapped for more than six hours last night when their boat ran aground.

The rigid inflatable boat (Rib) became stuck in mudflats at the top end of Portsmouth Harbour near the M275 motorway bridge at low tide.

From 4pm until 10.15pm its occupants were forced to wait for the tide to rise after being advised by Solent coastguards not to try to walk to safety over the mud.

Passer-by Mick Cooper, 59, of Fratton Road, said: ‘I saw them stuck on the mud at around 5.30pm and rushed home to get my camera.

‘They looked a bit hacked off because there was nothing they could do until the tide came back in.’
