FIRE crews from this area were called to help fight an intense blaze in the roof of a thatched cottage.

The fire took hold in the roof of the cottage in Sopley, Christchurch at 5.40pm on Thursday.

Seven crews from across Hampshire and Dorset, including Portchester, were called in to fight the fire.

They battled the blaze for hours. Nobody was hurt.

An investigation has been launched and the cause of the fire is not yet known.
