FIREFIGHTERS were called out after the roof of a disused factory caught fire.

The incident at Lederle Lane, Bridgemary, happened at about 4.50pm yesterday.

Crews from Fareham and Gosport fire stations dealt with the situation. They got on the roof and used a hose reel to put out the flames.

Damaged material was then cut away and warm areas were cooled down.

Firefighters left the scene about an hour later. The cause is under investigation.

Meanwhile, reports of a fire at Nickleby House, Portsmouth, at 4pm turned out to be a false alarm after Southsea firefighters discovered someone was in fact cooking a stir-fry.
