AN 81-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for three years for unlawfully killing his wife at their home.

Annie Beaver, 81, was found dead by police at a house in Sherfield Avenue in Leigh Park on November 23 last year.

She died of multiple stab wounds.

Her husband Peter, who has dementia, had denied murdering his wife.

However he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the day his trial was due to start at Winchester Crown Court in October.

At that time prosecutor Kerry Maylin said that the plea was acceptable bearing in mind the psychiatric evidence and evidence as a whole that the crown had been able to review.

Miss Maylin had said that the psychiatrists were all in agreement that while Peter Beaver has dementia it could not be treated suitably under a Mental Health Act disposal.

The couple had lived together for 40 years.
