PENSIONERS are being urged to be on their guard after an 82-year-old woman had her purse stolen in a distraction burglary.
The thief followed her from a charity shop in Fareham to her home in Hill View Road, Portchester, before knocking on her door and tricking his way into her house.
The man, who was 5ft 10in, in his 40s and white with short fair hair, told the woman his cat was in her back garden and while she was distracted he took her purse from her handbag.
The incident happened at about 2.45pm on Wednesday.
Police have urged pensioners to be extra vigilant and are appealing for anybody with information and witnesses, especially anybody who saw the man run off up Dore Avenue, to come forward.
The man was wearing a cream scarf, a cream sweatshirt, light trousers, a navy or black baseball cap and carried a red and white carrier bag.
He had a small tattoo with a line underneath on the side of his neck and spoke with a feminine voice, with a local accent.
