RESIDENTS are being warned about suspicious unsolicited telephone calls from people claiming to be from Hampshire County Council.

Hampshire County Council Trading Standards Service issued an alert to residents yesterday, urging anyone who receives one of these calls to report it.

The callers ask if the recipient has had an accident in the workplace or in the car.

These calls are suspected to be ‘phishing’ attempts to gain personal information, and the authority is concerned that money may be asked for.

It advised residents never to give out personal information and never to pay any money over the telephone to people they don’t know.

To report a ‘phishing’ phone call contact the Citizens’ Advice Consumer Service by telephone on 03454 04 05 06 or to report it online at hants.gov.uk
